Project Eiger: the future is 2.5D printing

It’s a dream assignment for every industrial designer: getting to work with the numerous applications of a completely new printing technology, 2.5D texture printing.

A 2.5D print is made up of ink layers that can accommodate texture and infinite colour shades, a (literal) extra dimension that is not only artistic but also extremely functional. During the early stages of this research & development project for Canon Production Printing , we investigated how the gap from 2D to 3D can be bridged. And that future is called texture.
